MEET

Alexis D. Owens is a registered Marriage and Family Therapist Associate. She is an Oakland, California native, born and raised in the West Oakland community where she learned valuable life lessons such as the importance of education, leadership, and the power of faith, love, and community.

Alexis’ educational and professional experience has afforded her an opportunity to serve a vast array of clientele, and has allowed her to recognize the importance of flexibility and adaptability as a therapist. She began her educational experience at Xavier University of Louisiana, and three years later returned to the Bay Area due to the horrific events of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. A few years later Alexis transferred to California State University, Hayward where she graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in psychology. She continued her education, and earned a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology from Holy Names University in Oakland, with a concentration of Marriage and Family Therapy.

Alexis’ clinical experience includes providing individual and group therapy while serving children, adults, and families in a variety of settings such as school-based, substance abuse day treatment program, and private practice. Her focus in therapy is to provide a welcoming, safe, and client-centered environment for all clients to feel safe and accepted, while addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, substance abuse, relational problems, and life adjustments. Alexis believes that providing therapy is an honor, and a collaborative journey towards self-awareness, insight, and healing.

When not working with clients, Alexis serves as a Case Manager for an Advance Illness Care program serving individuals living with an advance illness and their caregivers in Alameda County. She helps them to manage their spiritual, psychosocial, and health needs and provides trusted resources. Alexis also enjoys and is committed to serving in ministry with her local faith community.

Alexis strives to live each day of her life with a grateful heart and a purpose-driven mind. She is committed to serving others in any way that she can, and is excited about the possibilities that the future holds for herself and others.
